Joe Bororwski took another big step towards losing the Cleveland Indians closer job on Monday. He blew a save in the 9th inning, allowing 3 runs to score by a Dustin Pedroia sac fly and a 2 run Manny Ramirez home run. The loss dropped the Tribe to a 5-8 record, and the victory upped the Boston Red Sox to a record of 8-6.

“I just felt like I had nothing, like I was throwing through water,” Borowski said after the game. “It’s like I’m stuck in one gear. I had no extra gear. Not only that, I couldn’t locate. What hurts is the guys played a great game except the one guy out there at the end.”

Borowski should be feeling the heat right now. He’s already blown 2 saves this year and now has an ERA of 18.00. Also, there are many candidates in the Indians bullpen to more effectively shut the door. Their set-up man, Rafael Betancourt, had a 1.47 ERA last year. Masa Kobayashi has a 2.08 ERA so far this season. Southpaw Rafael Perez struck out 62 batters last year. And as much as Indian fans hate to hear it, Jorge Julio did save 36 games in 2003.

Bo-Sox manager attributes some of the game’s success to long man Julian Tavarez.

“Tavarez gave us a chance,” Francona said. “That’s not going to happen all the time.”

Julian relieved starter Jon Lester in the 5th inning, and threw 2.2 innings of shutout baseball with 4 strikeouts.
