True Predictions: Favre, Ravens, Steelers vs. Broncos on MNF

Posted by Frank Nevarez Categories: Editorial, NFL,

Description Last week I got the Big Game right (Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings over the Green Bay Packers) and I got the Big Upset right (Baltimore Ravens over the Denver Broncos). But, after losing at home to the Miami Dolphins the New York Jets of 2009 are now hard-set into being the Jets of 2008 (very average). Yes, the New York Giants now have lost three in a row. But, as I wrote last week, don’t think Donovan McNabb’s winning performance against them is a permanent thing. He’ll let you down come playoff time (probably well before then). I go 3-2 last weekend for a 21-15 season record.

To keep their wild card chances alive, Norv Turner’s San Diego Chargers travel east to take on the sinking Giants. Did I mention Norv Turner? Go with the Giants.

Those crazy Dolphins must also keep winning to keep their wild card chances alive. Unfortunately, they run into the New England Patriots up north on Sunday and the Pats are coming off a bye week. Bill Belichick beats Bill Parcells’ team.

The Dallas Cowboys go to Philly with the top spot in the NFC East on the line. Dallas is 2-1 on the road this season, but those wins were against the mediocre Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs teams. They did not beat the Broncos in Denver. Going to Philadelphia is a longer plane ride. Go with the Eagles.

The Baltimore Ravens need to remain above .500 if they have any hopes of winning the AFC North or being in contention for a wild card berth. If they lose to the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend then they fall to 4-4. The Bengals need this one as they go to play the Pittsburgh Steelers next week. Ok, I’m looking ahead, but the Bengals better not be. They are at home this Sunday. Let’s hope their revival this season is true: go with the Bengals.

I still expect the Steelers to take the AFC crown. A win on the road in a big Monday night game against a highly-regarded opponent is the stuff that happens when you’re a true champion. Denver’s a little wobbly after last week’s loss in Baltimore. Go with the reigning Super Bowl champs.
