Tonight Wade Dubielewicz and the New York Islanders defeated Zach Parise and the New Jersey Devils 5-2. In a back and forth game that contained 3 fights, Dubie proved to be solid and consistent just two nights after giving up 5 goals in one game against the Toronto Blue Jackets. The three stars tonight were Andy Sutton, who scored his first season goal, Richard Park who set up a Chris Campoli goal, and Wade Dubielewicz who blocked 27 of 29 goals.

“I think it’s my first (game-winner) ever,” First star Andy Sutton said. “Guys like Trent Hunter and Mike Sillinger deserve a lot of credit for the way they handled the puck. Hunter had it, and got it back to Silly. I just tried to be there, and Silly found me and I just shot it as hard as I could.”

With the victory the Islanders improve to 19-16, still 5th place in the Atlantic division. The Islander goals tonight came from Chris Campoli, Marc-Andre Bergeron, Andy Sutton, Sean Bergenheim, and Mike Comrie. The Devils had goals from Zach Parise and John Madden, their goalie, Martin Brodeur was able to stop 28 of 32 shots. Mike Comrie scored an empty net goal in the third period.

“I made a couple of bad decisions on the breakout,” Devils defenseman Mike Mottau said. “I got away with the first one, but then I moved the puck before I wanted to, and Campoli made a nice shot.”

The Islanders continue to miss Rick DiPietro who was out with a sprained knee, but in the meantime Dubielewicz continues to become a fan favorite in Long Island. His stellar performance tonight was definitely a boost of confidence, in his other 3 season starts the Islanders had been outscored 17-3.

“It felt pretty good,” Dubielewicz said. “I hadn’t had a win in a game I started this year. Our team, as a group, played a pretty smart game tonight. They kept New Jersey on the perimeter, which made my job a little easier. I’m starting to feel a little better. It was a fun game to be out there. It felt like we won most of the one-on-one battles.”
