Josh Hamilton
Josh Hamilton won the hearts of New York fans on Monday night, crushing 28 first round home runs in the 2008 MLB Home run Derby. One of Hamilton’s 28 homers landed 518 feet from home plate, the third longest home run every hit int he history of the competition (The farthest coming from Sammy Sosa in 2002). Three of the Triple Crown candidate’s shots traveled over 500 feet.

The winner of the derby would be Justin Morneau of the Minnesota Twins, who hit 22 on the evening. Morneau’s 22, combined from all three of his rounds, came six bombs short of Hamilton’s first round total. By the time the final round had arrived, each finalist had tired. Morneau could only manage 5 round three jacks, while Hamilton only sent 3 into the New York night. On the night, Josh Hamilton hit 35 home runs, much to the delight of the sell-out crowd at Yankee stadium. Frequently throughout the event, “Ham-il-ton!” chants rang throughout the house that Ruth built.
