Tulowitzki Turns Triple Play In Victory

Rookie shortstop Troy Tulowitzki turned the 13th unassisted triple play in Major League Baseball history on Sunday. The Colorado Rockies would go on to win the game in extra innings 9-7 over the Atlanta Braves, because of a walk-off home run by Matt Holliday. Brad Hawpe also homered for Colorado in the victory.
The top of the seventh inning got off to a shaky start, with Kelly Johnson and Edgar Renteria singling back-to-back. However, the next batter Chipper Jones hit a frozen rope right at shortstop Tulowitzki. With each of the runners stealing prior to the pitch, after Tulowitzki caught the ball he stepped on second base to double up Johnson, and then tagged out Renteria to complete the unassisted triple play.
In the bottom of the 11th inning the recently called up Steve Colyer was on to pitch for the Braves. Matt Holliday who was 1-5 for the day came up to the plate, and hit a walk off home run to deep right center field to send the Rockie fans home happy. The loss would be charged to Colyer, and the win went to Rockies pitcher Denny Bautista who worked a scoreless 11th inning.
The Braves still won the series two games to one, but the Rockies have to be riding high after this win. They play again on Monday against Noah Lowry and the San Francisco Giants.
