Eleven games. Thats how long it took for the Arizona Diamondbacks to score 30 runs overall. Today Joe Mauer and the Minnesota Twins scored 30 runs in two games. In game one of the doubleheader phenom catcher Joe Mauer had four hits and five RBI’s. In game two reigning AL MVP Justin Morneau hit three home runs. These two losses pushed the White Sox 13 games behind first place in their division. Game one ended with a football score of 20-14, and in game two the Twins blanked the White Sox with a score of 12-0. Surprisingly, normally hot-headed manager Ozzie Guillen was calm following these two losses.

“It was hard to watch, hard to feel that way,” Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen said. “You can do nothing about it.”

Its easy to focus on Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer who each had career games, but, well so did many parts of the Twins offense. Overall Torii Hunter, Jason Kubel, Michael Cuddyer, and Jeff Cirillo hit home runs. Kubel’s home run was a grand slam. Morneau had six RBI’s in game two. Jason Kubel had seven RBI’s in the first game. Jon Garland had his ugliest pitching line of the year in the first game. He battled his way through 3.1 innings and gave up 11 hits and 12 runs, 11 of them earned. If you weren’t a member of the Chicago White Sox, these games were fun to watch. Pitching duels are more refined and respected in the game, but the Twin bats were on display today. They’re now only six games back in their division, and if they finish this series strong they’ll have some much needed momentum going into the all star break.
