Reports are surfacing that Carlos Delgado will officially announce his retirement on Wednesday. It seems like this is the last, inevitable move in what has been a very successful 17-year major league career spent mostly with the Toronto Blue Jays; from 1993-2004, before playing for the Florida Marlins for a season and then the New York Mets from 2006-2009. Injuries have plagued his return to baseball ever since, prompting the slugger’s ultimate announcement.

Should the Nationals even consider keeping first-overall pick Bryce Harper in the catcher’s position? At the 2010 MLB Entry Draft, Washington selected Harper as an outfielder, but indicated that they may use him in his primary college position behind the plate. However, that decision may slow down Harper’s ascension to the majors and even shorten the length of his career due to the high physical demands that the catcher position puts on the human body.

Mets Defeat Yankees, Draw Subway Series Even

The highly marketed subway series took place this weekend, with both the New York Mets and the New York Yankees winning two games. Today, the Mets were able to pull out a 3-1 victory, thanks to a tremendous performance from starter Oliver Perez. Perez went seven innings, surrendering just one run and striking out eight.
“If we can get Ollie to be consistent, which has been the dilemma for him his whole career, we will have an excellent pitcher, no question,” Mets manager Jerry Manuel said.
