The Chicago Cubs won a laugher over the Washington Nationals on Saturday afternoon, by a score of 9-2. Aramis Ramirez homered twice, and Ryan Dempster threw 7.1 innings of one run baseball en route to the victory.

Infielder Perez Suspended for 25 Games

Detroit Tigers infielder Neifi Perez was suspended for 25 games on Friday for testing positive for a banned stimulant. Perez, a journeyman at this point in his career, was hitting .172 with a home run and six RBI’s. Perez will be eligible to return on August 4th vs. the Chicago White Sox, the suspension takes place immediately. At this point in 2007, 15 players have already been suspended for a positive drug test. Perez has already played for the Kansas City Royals, San Francisco Giants, and the Chicago Cubs.


Barret Traded to Padres

Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett’s dugout and clubhouse fight with Ace Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano would be his last. It was heavily rumored that either Zambrano or Barrett would be moved soon, and today it was reported that Barrett had been traded to the San Diego Padres for catcher Rob Bowen. Barrett has nine home runs and 56 rbi’s at this point in the season. Bowen has a .268 average with two home runs and 11 rbi’s.

Chicago Cub Prior Done For Year

Former heralded prospect pitcher Mark Prior, who started his season in triple A Iowa has been shut down for the season. He is getting surgery on his right shoulder. Although the injury should not be career ending it will end any hopes Prior had of reclaiming his previous touting as one of the top prospects in baseball.

Two Stars Injured After April 16 Games

Description
Both Alfonso Soriano of the Chicago Cubs and Vladimir Guerrero of the Los Angeles Angels were left bruised and in pain during their respective games on Monday. Guerrero had the less severe of the two injuries, as he suffered a bruised right wrist after getting hit by a pitch delivered by the Boston Red Sox’s Josh Beckett. Vlad left the game after getting medical attention from Angels’ team trainer.
