Denver Broncos hire John Fox as head coach

Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Front Office, News, NFL,

John Fox new Denver Broncos head coachThe Denver Broncos have their man for the head coach position. Former Carolina Panthers coach, John Fox, will be joining the Broncos after a lame-duck type of season with the Panthers. Fox, known for his defensive prowess will bring that mentality as the main piece to build his Broncos team and just like Carolina, should be able to bring the Broncos back to its glory. The question now becomes, how will he use Tim Tebow as Tebow seems to be the franchise quarterback fans have been yearning for since the days of John Elway, who actually was the main decision-maker in getting Fox into the fold.

Matt Millen admitting that he stunk as an NFL GM

Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Front Office, NFL,

Matt Millen stunk as the Detroit Lions GMMatt Millen was the Detroit Lions' GM from 2001-2008 and it was the opinion of NFL and especially Lions fans that Millen stunk at his job. Now, with John Elway taking the GM reins with the Denver Broncos, Millen who was also a former player without any previous experience running an NFL football team in any manner, is hoping that Elway will succeed. It's mighty nice of Millen to wish Elway luck, but at least the latter had experience running the AFL's Colorado Crush. Another thing in Elway's favor is that the franchise at least has some talent to work with, as well as a strong fan base and record of doing well during its history. The Lions did not when Millen took over, which concluded when Millen left after the 2008 season when the Lions became the only team in NFL history to not win a game, going 0-16. Ouch.

True Predictions: Holiday Express, Holiday Elimination Version

My goal is to hit the .600-.660 mark with the predictions this season, but it’s going to be tough. I went 3-3 last week. The season record is at 41-32 (just a bit below .570).  To the Express!

True Predictions: Bengals, Kurt Warner, and the Underachievement Bowl

Posted by Frank Nevarez Categories: Editorial, NFL,

Description Ouch, I go 1-4 this past weekend. Here are my excuses…I mean, reasons. A) I guess I can’t trust Bill Belichick as the New England Patriots lost to the Miami Dolphins, B) I should have known I couldn’t trust Wade Phillips and Tony Romo as the Dallas Cowboys lost to the New York Giants, C) I have to claim Thanksgiving turkey withdrawal for going with a Matt Ryan-less Atlanta Falcons over the Philadelphia Eagles (but was it visions of Xmas Past with Michael Vick?), D) Kurt Warner manned-up and the Arizona Cardinals are making the chase for the NFC crown a three-horse race. Only the Indianapolis Colts rang true and beat the Tennessee Titans. The season record runs to 36-26.

True Predictions: Saints, NFL Western Conferences, and Surprising Broncos

Drew Brees

Just came out of my first losing week; I went 2-3 (12-9 for the season). The Denver Broncos take the New England Patriots in OT. I guess the Broncos are for real. Kyle Orton “out-Brady’d” Tom Brady! The Miami Dolphins re-found the Wildcat and more than met the challenge of the New York Jets’ quick strike style (even with newbie Jet Braylon Edwards making a big contribution). The Baltimore Ravens’ loss to a gutsy Cincinnati Bengals shows how the two teams are going in opposite directions. The Atlanta Falcons got back on track and the Arizona Cardinals survived a late spurt from the Houston Texans.

True Predictions: Jets, Patriots, Tony Romo, NFL in L.A.

Tony Romo

Last week I went 3–2 with my predictions: The New York Jets have arrived early for both me and the New England Patriots. The Manning Brothers, Eli and Peyton, proved true to the pedigree with both leading great fourth quarter drives (I didn’t pick the New York Giants, but did pick the Indianapolis Colts) for the win.The Chicago Bears beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on a fourth quarter victory drive; I figured they’d want/need this one more.  Yes, I predicted that the Baltimore Ravens would beat the San Diego Chargers. Gotta love Norv Turner’s decision-making. USC head coach Pete Carroll would love San Diego, wouldn’t he? And he’s seen the old Teflon take some hits at USC, right?

Champ Bailey of the Denver Broncos breaks it up

DENVER BRONCOS
2007 RECORD: 7-9

Overview: For only the second time in 13 seasons, Mike Shanahan directed the Denver Broncos to a losing season (7-9). The offense couldn’t put up the points that they used to, but they did move the football as they finished the season 11th in total offense and averaging 346.3 yards per game. The Broncos are a well-rounded team and as every NFL coach knows, that is what makes them so hard to stop. Shanahan wouldn’t have it any other way.

Can Mario Williams help the Houston Texans look down on the AFC South

HOUSTON TEXANS
2007 RECORD: 8-8

Overview: The Houston Texans are coming off their best season ever, going 8-8 in 2007. Their early schedule was favorable and they came out of the first five games with a 3-2 record. Bad part about that was one of those losses was to the Atlanta Falcons. The last two Texan wins were against teams that were already in the playoffs as well, so in my estimation this team was 6-10 if it was 8-8. They were an improved team last year and should be better yet again. Too bad they don’t play in the NFC West.
