Alex GordonAfter one month of baseball, the Kansas City Royals had exceeded expectations with a 14-13 record and were second in the AL Central. Only the more unexpected Cleveland Indians were better. Since then, the Royals have returned to form, going 18-32 through May and June to this point and have fallen all the way to the basement in the division. It seems to be a fan of the Royals is synonymous with dashed hopes and dreams.

Edmonton finally finds reason to celebrate

Tyler SeguinTSN, Canada’s all-sports television network aired yesterday’s NHL Draft Lottery. The first 14 picks were ordered for the draft to take place on June 25 and 26, while the remaining 16 selections will be determined by the playoffs. After the climatic moment where the No. 1 picking team was revealed to be the Oilers, the program cut to a shot of Edmontonians celebrating in a bar. Did anybody tell these guys they finished in a convincing last place in all of hockey?

Calder Memorial race is getting hot

Matt DucheneThis year’s NHL rookie race is heating up. With all of the hype surrounding last year’s Entry Draft and the debate about whether John Tavares or Victor Hedman would be taken first (it was Tavares by the Islanders; Hedman went second to Tampa Bay), it was the third-overall pick, Colorado’s Matt Duchene who is keeping the goal judge busy. His 21 goals and 24 assists both lead all rookies, and he’s 10 ahead of second-place Tavares on the points list.
