“We still have a chance to win the division and win it all,” center fielder Coco Crisp said. “I think we have a better shot this year than we did last year.”

Carl Pavano Returns Successfully To Yankees Rotation
Posted by Milo Taibi Categories: Athletes, MLB, Scoreboard,
Carl Pavano signed a 40 million dollar contract with the New York Yankees in late 2004. The signing has been considered a massive failure for the Yankees, as Pavano has spent much of the time on his contract on the disabled list. However, on Saturday night Pavano proved himself to be a capable big league pitcher when healthy. He earned the victory over the Baltimore Orioles, going five innings and allowing just three runs. New York won the game by a score of 5-3.

Pirates Claim Phelps Off Waivers

On Friday the Pittsburgh Pirates claimed First Baseman/Catcher Josh Phelps from waivers. In 36 games this year with the New York Yankees Josh hit .262 with two home runs and 12 rbi’s. Phelps was getting his playing time in New York playing first base, but with the emergence of Miguel Cairo the Bronx Bombers did not have a place on their team for Phelps. He is known for his power (He hit 20 home runs in 2003 with the Toronto Blue Jays), and hits very well against left handed pitching (A career .289 average against left handed pitchers). With Adam Laroche not living up to standards at first base, this is a nice pickup for a Pirates team in need of more offense.

Thanks to a terrific pitching performance from Oliver Perez and a clutch two run jack from Endy Chavez the New York Mets took the first of three games from the New York Yankees. Despite pitching well, the tough luck loser is Andy Petitte and the winner is Oliver Perez. Petitte is now 2-3, and Perez is now 5-3. Also with a single in the third inning Perez now has seven hits for the season, tying him for the Major League lead hits for a pitcher with Livan Hernandez.

Proctor Suspended For Four Games
Posted by Milo Taibi Categories: Athletes, MLB, News,
On Monday New York Yankees relief pitcher Scott Proctor was suspended for four games for throwing behind Seattle Mariner Yuniesky Betancourt on Sunday. Both benches ran onto the field, as did the Yankees bullpen. No actual fighting occurred besides verbally. When Betancourt pointed his bat at Proctor following the pitch, Proctor gestured for Betancourt to charge the mound. This occurred after Yankees first baseman Josh Phelps needlessly plowed over Mariner catcher Kenji Johjima, and after Mariner pitcher Jarrod Washburn hit Phelps in the back with a pitch as retaliation.

A-Rod Continues Hot Hitting

In a game vs. the Boston Red Sox, Alex Rodriguez continued his unprecedented 2007 homerun trend. In just 15 games he has now hit 12 home runs, including two shots against Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling on Friday night. His second shot sent Red Sox centerfielder Coco Crisp over the right-center field wall in Crisp’s effort to rob A-Rod of a home run.
But Rodriguez would not be denied.
