True Predictions: Jets, Patriots, Tony Romo, NFL in L.A.

Tony Romo

Last week I went 3–2 with my predictions: The New York Jets have arrived early for both me and the New England Patriots. The Manning Brothers, Eli and Peyton, proved true to the pedigree with both leading great fourth quarter drives (I didn’t pick the New York Giants, but did pick the Indianapolis Colts) for the win.The Chicago Bears beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on a fourth quarter victory drive; I figured they’d want/need this one more.  Yes, I predicted that the Baltimore Ravens would beat the San Diego Chargers. Gotta love Norv Turner’s decision-making. USC head coach Pete Carroll would love San Diego, wouldn’t he? And he’s seen the old Teflon take some hits at USC, right?

True Predictions: New England Patriots, Brett Favre, Dallas Cowboys, Jay Leno

Adrian Peterson

The new season has begun and it’s time to look at how things will shape up in Week Two.  Remember, it’s a long season, so get comfy and let’s take a look at the big news coming out of the NFL.

Carolina Panthers’ QB Jake Delhomme’s confidence is shot and his ace receiver, Steve Smith, doesn’t believe in him either.  Bill Cowher, meet your new team.

Super Bowl 2009 participants, the Arizona Cardinals, lose Game One to the San Francisco 49ers. Ouch, what’s the percentage of teams losing the first game of the season and winning the Super Bowl? Not good. What’s the percentage of losing Super Bowl teams tanking the next season?  Sometimes history is a cruel thing.

One Man Mock Draft: Fantasy NBA 2009: Round 1, Pick 4

Kobe Bryant

LeBron James, Chris Paul, and Dwyane Wade have been taken in this mock draft. To review, this mock draft involves consideration of a standard nine-category head-to-head league.

The player these guys looked up to during the 2008 Beijing Olympics is being taken now. LBJ and CP3 will likely inherit the top two picks in drafts this year, but there is room to debate starting with the third pick overall. Let us look at the argument from the Kobe side of the coin.

Peyton Manning Prevails

In what will go down as one of the greatest second half comebacks of the 2008 season, future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning rallied the Colts to a last minute, 18-15 win over the Minnesota Vikings.

Indy trailed by as much as 15-0 late in the third quarter, before Manning and Co, kicked the offense into overdrive, chalking up two touchdowns and one field goal in a little under 18 minutes.

Kicker Ryan Longwell accounted for all the Vikes points, posting field goals of 45 and 27 yards in the first quarter, a 53 yarder to close out the half, and boots of 46 and 28 yards in the third stanza. All eyes were on soph running sensation Adrian Peterson who rushed for 160 yards on 29 carries. The Vikes front four shut down the Colts running game, ceding a meager 25 yards for the entire game. QB Tarvaris Jackson logged solid stats of 130 yards on 14 of 24 passing.

Peyton Manning setting up the Indianapolis Colts offense

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
2007 RECORD: 13-3

Overview: Expect the Indianapolis Colts to continue to be the Indianapolis Colts. Which is to be a team that dominates the regular season and once in the playoffs . . . who knows?!?  The roster for 2008 is almost identical to the 2007 roster which is good news for Indy fans. Peyton Manning hasn’t played in the preseason, but it isn’t going to matter. Marvin Harrison may be healthy or may not be, he may be going to jail or he may not be. It really doesn’t matter. The Colts offense dominated last year without him and while they would like to have a healthy Harrison, they will be fine without him.
