The EndScore Report: NFC Divisional Series Predictions

Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: NFL, Playoffs,

Chris Sannella and Dennis Velasco break down and make their picks for the NFC Divisional Series, which include the Green Bay Packers versus Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks versus Chicago Bears. Can Matt Ryan AKA Matty Ice stay cool enough in the face of the Packers defense led by monster backer Clay Matthews in order to win this game? Or will Aaron Rodgers and the rejuvenated running game thanks to James Starks reign supreme on the road? Speaking of on the road, can the Seahawks bring last week's home magic on the road and get another upset win? Or will the Bears and Jay Cutler get revenge for a loss earlier in the season?

Seattle Seahawks pull an upset beating the New Orleans Saints

Marshawn Lynch and Seahawks pull an upsetYes, the Seattle Seahawks were the home team, but with a 7-9 record, they weren't the favorites to win this match up versus the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints. However, the Seahawks did win, pulling an unexpected feat, even pulling a double-digit lead (34-20 after three-quarters) before Drew Brees worked his magic and got the score to 34-30 with about nine minutes left in the game. Ten unanswered points and Brees looking good, the Seahawks needed to stop the bleeding and that's when running back Marshawn Lynch took over, evading tacklers, and getting into the endzone, solidifying the upset.

NFC Wild Card Weekend Preview - Saints, Seahawks, Packers, Eagles

Aaron Rodgers leads his Green Bay Packers during the NFC Wild Card weekendThe NFC Wild Card weekend kicks off with the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks mixing it up in the Great Northwest on Saturday, January 8th at 4:30PM ET. There has been much ballyhoo about the Seahawks making it into the postseason as NFC West division champions with a losing record (7-9), the first time that's happened in the NFL's history. Feel bad if you're a Tampa Bay Buccaneers or New York Giants fan, both of whom finished with 10-6 records, but because of the current playoff system will be watching instead of playing.

True Predictions: Saints, NFL Western Conferences, and Surprising Broncos

Drew Brees

Just came out of my first losing week; I went 2-3 (12-9 for the season). The Denver Broncos take the New England Patriots in OT. I guess the Broncos are for real. Kyle Orton “out-Brady’d” Tom Brady! The Miami Dolphins re-found the Wildcat and more than met the challenge of the New York Jets’ quick strike style (even with newbie Jet Braylon Edwards making a big contribution). The Baltimore Ravens’ loss to a gutsy Cincinnati Bengals shows how the two teams are going in opposite directions. The Atlanta Falcons got back on track and the Arizona Cardinals survived a late spurt from the Houston Texans.

True Predictions: Vikings, Jets, Ravens, and Sea Monsters

Brett Favre

I went 4-2 this past weekend and 7-4 for the season. The Atlanta Falcons cannot make a statement and lose to the New England Patriots. You tell me if the San Francisco 49ers last second loss to Brett Favre and Minnesota Vikings equals “ugly” as I predicted. I think it counts more as “heart-breaking.” While it was a magical NFL moment to see Favre hoist that ball and to see Greg Lewis snatch it, I am of the mind that Favre will break down at some point during the season. I will either be right on this call or we may be seeing a John-Elway-like end to his career.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
2007 RECORD: 10-6

Overview: Winners of the NFC West division the last four seasons, the Seattle Seahawks look to keep in control of one of the weaker divisions in the league and give head coach Mike Holmgren, who has already stated that this is his last year with the team, a season to remember. The Seahawks made it to the divisional round of the playoffs in 2007, but eventually lost to Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers. The Seahawks are looking to bounce back this year with a solid defensive effort and a reliable and oftentimes underrated offense.
