Statistically, Carl Pavano’s career has been nothing short of a wild rollercoaster ride. The Minnesota Twins’ starting right-hander has been unpredictable from year to year. Pavano’s no stranger to rough stretches, and clearly he’s learned a lot from his low points in order to be most effective when he turns it around. The only problem for Pavano is that nobody seems to know how long it will take him to improve; or even how long before it gets worse again.

If you are a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, you probably found a thing or two to enjoy about their home opener against the Minnesota Twins on Friday night. While the highlight package for the game could take up an entire segment of SportsCenter, one of the standout events of the evening was 2010 Home Run King Jose Bautista’s fifth inning blast off Carl Pavano to pick up right where he left off last season.

Just three years ago, the Tampa Bay Rays were the laughing stock of the American League. With a World Series appearance in 2008, they served notice that the kids were finally ready to compete with the Yankees and the Red Sox, leapfrogging in talent over Baltimore and Toronto. While not exactly baseball’s biggest stage, the Rays served notice again that their system is still full of talent when they brought up pitcher Jeremy Hellickson to make a start against the Minnesota Twins on Monday night.

Carl Pavano Returns Successfully To Yankees Rotation

Carl Pavano signed a 40 million dollar contract with the New York Yankees in late 2004. The signing has been considered a massive failure for the Yankees, as Pavano has spent much of the time on his contract on the disabled list. However, on Saturday night Pavano proved himself to be a capable big league pitcher when healthy. He earned the victory over the Baltimore Orioles, going five innings and allowing just three runs. New York won the game by a score of 5-3.
