A lot has been made of the Toronto Blue Jays’ closer situation this offseason, from losing Kevin Gregg, potential ninth-inning man Scott Downs and one-time 30-save guy Jeremy Accardo to reaching a deal with Toronto main-stay Jason Frasor to the acquisitions of Frank Francisco, Octavio Dotel and Jon Rauch. That’s a lot of star power both leaving and entering Toronto’s bullpen. But what few have been talking about is another pick up in former Washington Nationals closer Chad Cordero.

Matt Stairs sets sights on another MLB record

Matt Stairs, baseball’s best-known bench player, is working on another record. Already his is the record for most pinch hit home runs, with 23 of his career 263 bombs coming off the bench. What he’s also known for is his long resume. He’s held jobs with 12 major league baseball teams since he began in 1992, tying the record held by Mike Morgan, Ron Villone and even Deacon McGuire, who played in the 19th century.

Dawson to remain an Expo in MLB Hall of Fame

Andre “The Hawk” Dawson’s Major League road is coming to a stop with his induction into the MLB Hall of Fame. After eight failed attempts at reaching everlasting fame, Dawson was voted in with 77.9% of the vote and will be inducted this year. Dawson’s issue with his selection is that he will not go in wearing a Chicago Cubs hat. His plaque will feature the symbol of the defunct Montreal Expos. Dawson has expressed his frustration publicly at being denied his request to represent the Cubs in Cooperstown.

Canada’s team may not be for Canada’s Bay

Jason Bay has a history of success. Being a 22nd round draft pick by the Montreal Expos, not many expected much of him. He was traded from the Expos to the San Diego Padres to the Pittsburgh Pirates between 2002-2003, making his MLB debut along the way. However, 2004 was the year he made the greatest impact. He hit .282 in 120 games, and lead all rookies 26 home runs, 82 RBI, .550 slugging, 54 extra base hits and 226 total bases. His accomplishments earned him the 2004 NL Rookie of the Year Award; the first time for any Canadian. In 2008, he was traded to the Red Sox to replace Manny Ramirez, and he has fit in perfectly.
