Griffey to return to Seattle in 2010

Ken Griffey Jr.Ken Griffy Jr. and the Seattle Mariners reached another deal together on Wednesday, as the M’s signed Griffey to a one-year contract, likely similar to the $2 million base with $3 million incentive-laden deal he inked a year ago. Griffey is a legendary power hitter in Seattle, and spent the majority of his 2009 season in a DH role for the club. The beloved Pennsylvania-born slugger was invited to return by fans during the Mariners’ final homestand, with sentiments echoed by the club with a contract offer. While his playing time in 2010 remains to be determined, Griffey’s presence alone will be enough to ignite a rising Mariners franchise.

Veteran Rhodes Traded To Florida

Arthur Rhodes was traded from the Seattle Mariners to the Florida Marlins on Thursday in exchange for minor league pitcher Gaby Hernandez. Rhodes, who’s composed a 17 year career, is 2-1 on the 2008 season with 26 K’s in 22 IP’s. The more important statistic for the veteran southpaw Rhodes is the .195 BA left handed batters have suffered against Arthur this season.

“We wanted to add some depth to the bullpen, some experience,” Marlins president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest said. “It’s a deal we started talking about last weekend, and it came together this morning.”

STR8 H8: Shawn Chacon Needs To Check Himself!

Shawn Chacon, Number One? For Real?

So, it seems that Shawn Chacon, he the owner of a lifetime 4.98 ERA and 43-58 W-L record thinks he’s just THAT DAMN GOOD!  To be honest, I researched his statistics and was impressed with the 35 saves he notched with the Colorado Rockies in 2004, but then saw his ERA (7.11) that reminded me of Slurpees and Indian men named Apu and instantly lost that loving feeling.  Whoa… whoa.  In any case, Chacon has put aside the reality of his statistics and has chosen to wear the number ONE on the back of his Houston Astros jersey.  Bwhahahaha!  So, exactly what are you saying, Mr. Chacon… hmmm?

Proctor Suspended For Four Games

Yuniesky Betancourt is not happy
On Monday New York Yankees relief pitcher Scott Proctor was suspended for four games for throwing behind Seattle Mariner Yuniesky Betancourt on Sunday. Both benches ran onto the field, as did the Yankees bullpen. No actual fighting occurred besides verbally. When Betancourt pointed his bat at Proctor following the pitch, Proctor gestured for Betancourt to charge the mound. This occurred after Yankees first baseman Josh Phelps needlessly plowed over Mariner catcher Kenji Johjima, and after Mariner pitcher Jarrod Washburn hit Phelps in the back with a pitch as retaliation.

King Felix Shuts Out Red Sox

On Tuesday night Felix Hernandez stole the show from the attractions of Ichiro Suzuki and Daisuke “Dice K” Matsuzaka. Although the media hype was surrounding Ichiro facing Matsuzaka, Hernandez was quietly shutting down the Boston Red Sox offense. He went all nine innings,\ and gave up just one hit while striking out six.  Matsuzaka wasn’t nearly as impressive, throwing seven innings, giving up eight hits and three earned runs while striking out four and giving up one walk.
