Tim ThomasIn the aftermath of the city of Vancouver tearing itself apart, it’s easy to forget that the Boston Bruins are the newly-crowned Stanley Cup Champions. Tim Thomas performed admirably in net in securing his team the championship trophy as well as locking up the Conn Smythe Trophy himself as playoff MVP. By shutting out the opposition in the biggest game of his life, Thomas has secured himself as a fixture as both a Bruin and an American.

Tim ThomasTalk about a “Luoooong” night for Vancouver Canucks fans. For Boston Bruins fans though, there couldn’t have been a better way to bounce back from a pair of disappointing losses in Games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup Final. On home ice, Boston erupted for eight goals – all against Vancouver netminder Roberto Luongo – in a stunning thrashing of the visiting favorites. The pre-game itself features more storylines than any sports section could handle, and by the final whistle, about a dozen more were added to the lengthening list.

Boston Bruins in do or die situation against Montreal Canadiens

Milan Lucic and P.K. SubbanThe Boston Bruins beat themselves on Saturday night, falling 3-1 to the Montreal Canadiens in game two of their playoff series and going behind two games to none. The Bruins announced late that Zdeno Chara wouldn’t play, and they couldn’t compensate for their noticeably smaller blue line as the Canadiens infiltrated the Boston zone often. At the other end, Habs goalie Carey Price was spectacular again, stopping 34 of 35 shots in the win.

Tim Thomas set for record-breaking season in Boston net

Tim ThomasTim Thomas is a perfect 5-0 for the Boston Bruins this year. Despite that, his team sits in sixth place in the Eastern Conference. The problem the Bruins have at this point is Thomas’s backup, Tuukka Rask who is like a yang to Thomas’s yin. Rask is 0-2. Combined, the two goalies have given the Bruins 10 points in seven games. Talk to anyone on the Bruins and they’ll probably tell you that’s not good enough.

Olympic rosters set, now bring on Vancouver

Tim ThomasLet the media frenzy begin! The 2010 Winter Olympics inched closer this week with the announcements of Team Canada and Team USA’s hockey rosters. Canadian GM Steve Yzerman unveiled his team in a massive conference on Wednesday, while Brian Burke gave his USA selections following the Winter Classic in Boston. Perhaps the most prestigious event of the Games, the men’s hockey teams have been unveiled and fans and media alike are weighing in on the choices, debating whether or not the chosen players will be good enough to compete for gold in February.
